Porcelain Crowns & Dental Onlays

Some teeth require a complete or partial coverage of the tooth structure to protect them. In some instances a part of the tooth may have been fractured off, a filling may be too large, or there may be too much decay in the tooth to place a filling. In these cases either a full coverage porcelain crown, or dental onlay may be needed.

What is a Full Coverage Porcelain Crown or Onlay?

A full coverage porcelain crown, as the name states, covers the entire tooth when there is not enough healthy tooth structure to do a filling or a veneer. They are extremely esthetic. An onlay is a partial crown. They are indicated when the tooth damage is too much for a filling but there is still some strong tooth structure remaining. They function like a piece of a puzzle, replacing the damaged tooth structure and leaving the healthy tooth intact. They are also very esthetic.
